Fuchsia Pink Wedding at Dodford Manor | Northamptonshire

The Calm Before the Ceremony

Georgia and Chris' spring wedding at Dodford Manor in Northamptonshire had an energy that was impossible not to feel from the moment we arrived. Photographing weddings at Dodford Manor is always a pleasure, and this one reminded us exactly why...

The sun was out in full force, the grounds were bright and open and the whole day had that particular kind of warmth that comes when a couple has planned something that is completely and unapologetically them. This was not one of those weddings that played it safe and it was all the better for it.

Dodford Manor is a beautiful country house venue set in the Northamptonshire countryside, and on a clear end-of-March day, it was looking its absolute best. It’s the kind of venue that gives you plenty to work with without ever feeling too stiff or formal. There’s a really relaxed character to the place that suits couples who want their wedding to feel like a proper celebration rather than just a series of scheduled moments.

The morning prep at The Staverton Hotel had a lovely calm to it that set the tone for the rest of the day. Hair by Lucy Locks and makeup by the lovely Rose from Soft Glam by Rose, who we have worked with a number of times now and is as wonderful to be around as she is talented, meant Georgia was in great hands from the very start. There was no frantic energy, no last-minute panic. Everything moved at exactly the right pace, which meant by the time it came to the actual getting-ready moments we wanted to photograph, the room already felt settled.

When the Colour Palette Says Everything

We were in love with the bold colour palette Georgia and Chris chose. A bright fuchsia pink ran through the whole day, and on a sun-filled afternoon it looked genuinely stunning. Fuchsia pink is the kind of choice that could easily go wrong in the wrong light or the wrong setting, but here it worked beautifully. The sunshine made the whole thing glow, and the florals from With Love Roses really carried it through from the ceremony right into the reception in a way that felt so cohesive and considered.

The decor throughout had real personality to it. Every table was dressed with a selfie of Georgia and Chris taken at different locations which gave the whole room this sense of shared history that no off-the-shelf centrepiece could ever match. Guests were essentially surrounded by little snapshots of the couple's life together, which we thought was a lovely thing to sit down to.

Mr. 305 Made The Guest List

Then there was Pitbull.

A life-sized cardboard cutout of the man himself (won at a Bingo game) was positioned with the kind of confidence that suggested he had always been on the guest list. Alongside him was a temporary tattoo station that gave guests the option of leaving with his face somewhere on their person. We have photographed a lot of weddings, and this particular combination was certainly a first for us. The best wedding details are always the ones that make you laugh and make complete sense at the same time.

From a practical standpoint, this was one of the most straightforward days we have had in a long time. The timeline ran perfectly from start to finish, guests were wonderfully cooperative during group photos, and the whole day moved naturally so nobody felt rushed and nothing felt like it was being forced into place. As photographers, this kind of day is genuinely a gift.

Making the Most of a Sunny Afternoon

The light was on our side too. It was a bright, sunny afternoon, which can sometimes make portrait sessions trickier, but Dodford Manor had enough shaded spots with even, open light that we could move between settings easily and keep the portraits feeling fresh and relaxed rather than squinted and overexposed. We never had to disappear with Georgia and Chris for long, which meant they stayed present with their guests and we still came away with portraits we’re really proud of.

What really made Georgia and Chris's wedding so enjoyable to photograph was that the whole thing felt genuinely easy. Not easy in a way that meant anything had been left to chance, but easy in the way that comes when two people are completely comfortable with each other and with what they have planned. There was no tension, no stress, and no sense that anyone was performing for the camera. Georgia and Chris told us afterwards that we were calming and relaxing to be around, which is one of the nicest things a couple can say to us. Honestly, they made our job very easy.

The bold colour choices, the humour, the personal details and the sheer warmth of the day all came from Georgia and Chris knowing exactly what they wanted and executing it with confidence. That is always when a wedding feels best to photograph.

Dodford Manor is a venue we would genuinely recommend for couples who want something beautiful without it feeling overly formal. The grounds offer real variety for portraits, the spaces work well throughout the day. For us, it was a wonderful venue to spend the day at.
